Once again, a massive amount of drugs and unauthorized items have been seized at Saskatchewan Penitentiary.
The seizure took place Friday and saw officers confiscate methamphetamine, THC and SIM cards, which had a total estimated institutional value of $170,566. The seizure stemmed from the vigilance of staff members at the facility.
As a result, the Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) contacted Prince Albert police, who are continuing the investigation. Measures have also been heightened to prevent contraband and other unauthorized items from entering the prison and the CSC’s other institutions.
The CSC uses different tools to prevent drugs and other contraband from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
A telephone tip line has also been set up for all federal institutions so additional information can be received regarding drug use or trafficking that threatens the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members.
The toll-free number ensures that the information shared is protected and the caller remains anonymous.
