The construction contract for Saskatoon’s new downtown library has been awarded.
After cost-related delays, Ledcor Construction Limited has been chosen for both pre-construction and construction management services.
Pre-construction services are expected to cost $544,229, while construction management adds up to $16,791,624.
During pre-construction, the company will work alongside design and engineering teams to identify what they call “design efficiencies,” so the new library can be built on budget.
The project’s total approved budget is $134 million.
“We are very excited to be working with the talented and experienced team at Ledcor,” Jim Siemens, the library’s board chair, said in a statement.
Siemens said Ledcor was chosen because of its personnel, relevant project experience and achievements in cost savings.
Construction on the new library at 321 Second Avenue North is expected to begin this summer, with the opening slated for 2027.
The library said a “more comprehensive project update” will be shared in the coming weeks.
