After an abnormally warm start to the winter season, Saskatchewan’s normal winter has finally hit.
Lots of snow and extreme cold temperatures blanket the province.
Farmer Travis Sanderson said it’s a warm welcome to see the snow make its way to the prairies.
“It’s nice to see snow, it means you are maybe going to get more moisture,” said Sanderson. “But it doesn’t equate to as much moisture as rain.”
The cold hasn’t created any extra challenges for Sanderson.
“It’s always harder to work with anything when it’s cold,” said Sanderson. “It takes longer to get things going and yeah it’s not as nice but it’s something we’ve always had to deal with.”
Sanderson doesn’t have any livestock that he has to worry about, but does have concerns that the cold could affect when the ground thaws.
“For next year maybe the ground will take longer to warm up,” said Sanderson. “It might make for later seeding.”
Sanderson explained his bigger concern for crop growers is the lack of moisture they’ve seen over the last couple years.
