Cold warnings issued for Sask. as polar vortex sweeps in

After being seemingly on hold, winter is making a bold statement this week in Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for northern and west central areas of Saskatchewan as a perilous cold snap tightens its grip on the Prairies.

The weather agency warned residents should brace themselves for dangerously cold overnights, with wind chills plummeting into the -50s in the coming days.

“Extremely cold air will continue to move into the region on Thursday and will persist into the weekend and early next week,” said the weather agency.

“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.”

While the cold snap is expected to break on Monday day-time temperatures are expected to remain slightly below normal.
