One of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ breakout defenders from 2023 will be back in green and white.
The CFL club announced Saturday it has signed 28-year-old linebacker C.J. Reavis to a two-year contract extension. He could have become a free agent Feb. 13.
Reavis played 17 games in 2023, spending time at both safety and strong-side linebacker. In those contests, he recorded 59 defensive tackles, five tackles for a loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception.
The breakout came after a 2022 season in which Reavis appeared in four games but suffered a torn Achilles on Oct. 29, 2022.
Prior to coming to the CFL, the 6-foot-0, 198-pound product of Chester, Va., had signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He dressed for four games, recording one tackle with the Jags. Reavis spent the 2019 and ’20 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.
Reavis played college football at Virginia Tech before transferring to East Mississippi. He also appeared on the popular show Last Chance U.
After one season at East Mississippi, he transferred to Marshall where he played in 21 games.
