Friday is expected to be the busiest day for travellers at the Saskatoon airport.
The airport is expected to see over 2000 departing passengers on Friday alone but the airport’s vice president of business development, CJ Dushinski, said they aren’t expecting any delays so far.
Dushinski said there will be less congestion for travellers in the coming days compared to last year.
“Last year we were in a different situation with weather across the country, we were seeing a lot of snow storms,” she said. “So far it’s looking like clear skies specifically here in Saskatoon in the province.”
Although operations at the airport are projected to run smoothly, Dushinski recommended people give themselves extra time to get through screening when it’s expected to be busy and for travellers to double check with their airline to make sure their flight is on time before arriving at the airport.
Parking lots are expected to be busy this weekend, Dushinski said, and travellers who are planning to drive can book parking ahead on the airport’s website.
Those planning to travel with presents are advised to not to bring them wrapped, Dushinski shared, as they will have to be unwrapped during the screening process.
A number of travellers were jetting off to see family for Christmas on Friday.
Bob MacDonald and his wife were travelling to Vancouver to see their daughter and family. He said he is excited to participate in holiday traditions like going to church on Christmas eve, seeing light displays, and of course, opening presents.
Another traveller — Alphonso — was jetting off to see his sister in Las Vegas for the holidays. He said he hasn’t visited her since 2018.
“She works at the Bellagio, but she’s taking time off for me,” he said with a smile.
Alphonso said he is looking forward to trying new restaurants, especially some offering seafood, and taking in a concert or two.
