A loss prevention officer at a Saskatoon shopping centre was allegedly assaulted with a knife on Tuesday.
Loss prevention officers are civilians employed in retail settings to prevent theft and other monetary losses, often by making citizens’ arrests.
According to police, officers were called to the shopping centre shortly after 7 p.m. Police didn’t name the centre, but the address given by police corresponds with Midtown Plaza.
“Officers learned that a group of people entered a store and the (loss prevention officer) recognized one of them who had been banned from the centre,” police said in a statement.

“Upon escorting them out of the vicinity, a brief altercation occurred before the victim was assaulted with a pocket knife.”
The worker suffered minor injuries, police said, and the alleged perpetrator – a 15-year-old boy – was arrested soon after by security guards. He was later taken into custody by police.
The teen is now facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, breaching an undertaking and breaching probation.
“He was also found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest,” police noted.
