With their eyes on being drafted, CHL players will get their chance to show off what they can do in March.
The CHL has announced the rosters for the 2024 CHL/NHL Top Prospects game.
The game, which is to take place on Jan. 24 in Moncton, N.B., will feature 18 WHL players. Those include Regina Pats captain Tanner Howe, Spokane Chiefs forward Berkly Catton and Prince Albert Raiders forward Ryder Ritchie.
The game will see top NHL draft-eligible talent from the OHL, QMJHL and WHL compete before hundreds of NHL scouts as the players seek to improve their draft stock ahead of the 2024 NHL draft.
Howe, an 18-year-old product of Prince Albert, has 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) in 33 games this season. He leads the team in a number of categories, including goals and points.
He is currently ranked as an “A” level prospect by NHL Central Scouting, which means he is projected to be a first-round pick.
Catton has played in 30 games for the Chiefs this season, with the 17-year-old Saskatoon product recording 22 goals and 24 assists in that time. Catton, who also is ranked as an “A” level prospect, was taken first overall by Spokane in the 2021 WHL draft.
Ritchie, a 17-year-old from Calgary who also is considered an “A” level prospect, has 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 34 games with P.A. in the 2023-24 WHL season.
There are 12 forwards, four defencemen and two goalies representing the WHL at the game.
The 2024 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game will be the 28th edition of the showcase.
