The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added a running back/returner to their roster.
The CFL team announced Thursday it had signed Jerrion Ealy, who played three seasons at the University of Mississippi before joining the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.
The Roughriders may need a running back and a returner if free agency doesn’t go their way in the off-season. Tailbacks Frankie Hickson and Jamal Morrow and returner Mario Alford all appear on the preliminary list of Roughriders who can hit the market Feb. 13.
The 5-foot-8, 189-pounder played 33 games at Ole Miss, recording 384 carries for 2,235 yards and 20 touchdowns, 67 catches for 545 yards and four majors, and 34 kick returns for 864 yards and two touchdowns.
He was named to the 2019 SEC All-Freshman team and was a second-team All-SEC performer in 2020 as an all-purpose player. He twice was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watchlist as college football’s most versatile player, and twice was on the Doak Walker Award Watchlist as the nation’s best running back.
Ealy signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL draft and spent the majority of the season on their practice roster. He also attended training camp with the Chiefs in 2023.
