The Swift Current Broncos and their head coach have mutually agreed to part ways.
Devan Praught was set to return to the WHL team’s bench Wednesday night following a five-game suspension issued by the league after an incident that occurred in practice on Nov. 13. He had been suspended by the team on Nov. 14 before the league’s ban was imposed.
An investigation by the WHL and its security network found Praught had violated the WHL Standards of Conduct.
“As an organization, we would like to thank Devan for his all of his hard work during two-and-a-half seasons with the club and wish him all the best moving forward,” general manager Chad Leslie said in a statement.
Taras McEwen will be the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
McEwen, 32, joined the Broncos in August following a six-season tenure with the Winnipeg Ice.
The Whitewood product also served as an assistant coach with the SJHL’s Notre Dame Hounds during the 2016-17 season.
He is the son of former Broncos head coach and general manager Brad McEwen.
Praught was named the Broncos’ head coach in 2022. He previously served as head coach on an interim basis following the departure of Dean Brockman.
