A 34-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a standoff with Saskatoon police that lasted around 11 hours.
In a release Wednesday, police said members of the Guns and Gangs Unit saw a man who was wanted on Criminal Code warrants — and whom police believed was in possession of guns — enter a house in the 1700 block of 22nd Street West on Tuesday afternoon.
The release said “multiple purpose-trained police teams” descended on the house, but the man refused to come out. He did early Wednesday morning and was arrested.
Officers subsequently searched the house and found a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, a high-velocity imitation handgun, ammunition, and two cans of bear spray.
The man was charged with weapons-related offences as well as mischief under $5,000 for damaging police property during the incident. The release didn’t say what was damaged or how.
Traffic restrictions that were in place in the area during the standoff were lifted.
