A would-be thief allegedly helped lead police to the scene of his own crimes by shining a laser at a police plane while he was breaking into cars.
According to a social media post by the Saskatoon Police Service’s Air Support Unit, the man pointed a laser at the police plane on Sunday night.
“The laser allowed us to find the suspect who was breaking into cars near Windsor and 8th Ave. He ran from police,” the post read.
He didn’t get too far, as police said the officers watching from the air saw the man hide underneath a deck.
In addition to allegedly pointing the laser and breaking into vehicles, the would-be thief was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for “several serious assaults,” police added.
A number of people have ended up facing charges after pointing lasers at aircraft in Saskatoon.
In a previous interview, police plane pilot Sgt. Wade Bourassa said laser pointers are distracting and dangerous to pilots.
“Imagine piloting an aircraft being blinded and having to land that thing not being able to see,” Bourassa said.
