A traffic stop turned into much more for Saskatoon police.
On Wednesday evening, patrol officers pulled over a vehicle in the 1100 block of 22nd Street West. During the traffic stop, officers saw that the driver had a bag that contained suspected illicit drugs.
Officers arrested the two occupants of the vehicle and a search turned up a gun, ammunition, 0.72 grams of suspected cocaine, a digital scale, $1,000 in cash, two cellphones, hotel room cards, and a box of nearly 9,000 illicit cigarettes.
Police then got a search warrant for a room in a hotel in the 300 block of Shillington Crescent. There, police found 56.48 grams of cocaine, 575 millilitres of codeine phosphate, $2,900 in cash, a digital scale and other items associated with drug trafficking.
When the men were being processed at the police station, officers found another 20.52 grams of cocaine on one of the men.
The men, ages 29 and 31, are both from Alberta. They’re facing a number of drug- and weapons-related charges.
