A total of four people have now been arrested and charged in connection with an incident earlier this month at Montreal Lake Cree Nation that prompted the RCMP to issue a dangerous person alert.
Ben Bird, 22, and Lloyd Bird, 28, are the latest to be named by the RCMP. The duo faces a number of charges including attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, assault, and possession of firearms knowing possession is unauthorized.
Ben Bird has also been charged with six counts of possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited; while Lloyd Bird is also charged with possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited.
The dangerous person alert, which lasted for several hours, was in response to a report the RCMP received that multiple suspects were seen armed and walking around the community.
Local residents were told to seek shelter and to lock their doors. Local administration offices and the school remained closed for a couple of days.
Deon Smith was located the same day and Justice Bird was arrested the day after.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services, La Ronge and Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Teams, Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team, and Police Dog Services assisted in the investigation.
