Sixteen months after Chad Bird’s death on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation, two men have been charged.
The Saskatchewan RCMP said 37-year-old Julian Ganton of Prince Albert was arrested Saturday in Saskatoon. He’s charged with one count of being an accessory after the fact to murder and one count of driving while prohibited.
Ganton made his first court appearance in Saskatoon on Monday.
That same day, the Mounties said, 26-year-old Tristen Naytowhow of Prince Albert was arrested in that city. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm while prohibited.
Naytowhow was to appear in court in Prince Albert on Tuesday.
Bird was found dead near a house on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation on June 7, 2022 and his death was determined to be a homicide. The subsequent investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes resulted in the charges this week.
