Two Moose Jaw men might need some nicotine gum after police seized 110,000 cigarettes during a search on Wednesday.
According to police, officers raided a home on Duffield Crescent after a joint investigation into contraband cigarettes with Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Finance.
During the search, police seized the cigarettes along with six guns, more than $52,000 in cash and “a small amount” of cocaine.
Police said two men, ages 46 and 55, are facing charges of possession of unstamped tobacco for the purpose of trafficking. The 46-year-old is also facing charges related to the firearms, cocaine and cash.
Both men were released from custody ahead of court dates in December and January.
“Crimes like this can put these substances into the hands of young people, defraud governments of tax dollars, and support organized crime,” the Moose Jaw Police Service said in a statement.
There have been several large seizures of illicit tobacco in Saskatchewan recently, including a case last month which saw Highway Patrol officers confiscate two million unstamped cigarettes.
