A 37-year-old woman was injured after she was allegedly attacked by a group of children while riding a Saskatoon Transit bus.
According to police, officers got a report of “several teens assaulting another passenger” while the bus was stopped at Witney Avenue and 20th Street West late on Tuesday evening.
“When officers arrived, several teens were witnessed fleeing on foot,” police said in a statement. “A 15-year-old male and 15-year-old female were taken into custody.”
The victim suffered minor injuries, police said.
Both teens were charged with breaching court conditions, police said, and more charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Safety on Saskatoon buses has been a hot-button issue recently, with a union leader estimating that 38 drivers were assaulted in 2022.
Next month, city council is expected to vote on a proposal to hire six community support officers specifically to patrol bus terminals and transit vehicles in an effort to improve safety.
