Weather in Saskatchewan can be unpredictable, and fall is no exception.
Operational Meteorologist Kyle McAulay with Environment Canada said frost and snow will likely blanket the province overnight.
The Yorkton area could be first to see snow. Other areas of the province will see overnight lows and frost.
McAulay said high winds will also be rolling into southern Saskatchewan, especially near Regina and Estevan.
Those areas could see wind gusts of up to 80 km/h. The Saskatoon area can expect to see gusts of 70 km/h.
This isn’t strong enough for a wind warning, but it’s close.
“We would be issuing a wind warning if we expect it to be a little bit stronger. We would look at sustained winds of 70km/h or gusts of up to 80 or greater,” said McAulay.
He warns of possible issues this wind may cause.
“Make sure things are tied down, and loose objects are stowed away today because it is going to be pretty windy. It can also make driving conditions in the rural areas a little tricky too,” he said.
The wind and frost won’t last long as weather heats up for the long-weekend.
The Friday high is 8 C, which is lower than the average for this time of year. But Saturday warms to a 20 C high, with clear nights expected for much of the weekend.
He said these temperatures are slightly above normal. Environment Canada predicted a warm fall.
“We’re going to be seeing temperatures into the double digits and near 20 degrees. It looks like we have a pleasant week, week and a half, maybe even two weeks ahead of us,” said McAulay.
