Two familiar faces will greet the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Montreal’s Percival Molson Stadium on Friday.
Montreal Alouettes head coach Jason Maas was the Roughriders’ offensive co-ordinator for the 2021 and ’22 CFL seasons before he was fired last November. The Als’ No. 1 quarterback is Cody Fajardo, who was the Riders’ starter from 2019 through ’22 before leaving in free agency this off-season.
Those two have helped Montreal post a 4-3-0 record so far this season.
The Roughriders take a 4-4-0 mark into Friday’s game. They snapped a three-game losing streak with a 26-24 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks on Sunday.
Mason Fine is to make his fourth straight start for Saskatchewan since replacing the injured Trevor Harris as the Roughriders’ starting QB. Fine is coming off his best showing of the 2023 campaign, having completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 296 yards with one touchdown against Ottawa.
The Roughriders’ defence had six sacks against Ottawa, which must concern Fajardo and Maas. The Als have allowed 29 sacks through seven games; only the Redblacks had allowed more (33) entering the week, but they had played one more game.
