Stanley Cup journeying across Saskatchewan

The Stanley Cup is currently making its way across Saskatchewan.

Those in the southern part of the province got to enjoy it first, as Las Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Brayden Pachal brought it back to his hometown of Estevan.

The day included a parade, a public skate and a barbecue.

Pachal spent one season with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League before playing five seasons in the Western Hockey League, which included three with the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Cup is set to make its way to Emma Lake on Tuesday thanks to Chandler Stephenson.

His mother Bev told paNOW the area is a special place for him as he has a cabin there.

“He just wanted to keep it with family and friends and then he just decided that he was going to share it with the public,” she said.

This is the second time Stephenson has won the Stanley Cup; he was part of the 2017-18 Washington Capitals. During his first day with the trophy, he travelled to Humboldt to hopefully make some people’s day after the Broncos bus crash.

Bev explained she’s just as excited to see the Cup as she was five years ago.

“It’s always exciting. The Cup has something magical about it,” she said. “I don’t know what it is.”

Stephenson plans on visiting different areas on the lake, including Sunset Bay from 11 a.m. to noon.

After visiting cottage country, the Stanley Cup will make its way to Brayden McNabb’s hometown of Davidson on Wednesday for a public celebration.

The festivities begin at 4:15 p.m. with a parade followed by an opportunity for fans to get their pictures taken with McNabb and the Cup.
