A Saskatoon psychiatrist is accused of defrauding a government agency of more than $90,000 over a 15-month period.
In a media release Friday, the Saskatoon Police Service said its Economic Crime Section had concluded its investigation into the psychiatrist’s activities between September of 2017 and December of 2018.
Police said they got a notice in February of 2022 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan about possible fraud by the psychiatrist. The police investigation determined an unnamed government agency had been billed for fraudulent services and was out more than $90,000.
The psychiatrist, a 65-year-old Saskatoon man whose name wasn’t released by police, turned himself in on Tuesday. He was charged with fraud over $5,000 and released on conditions.
He’s to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Aug. 28.
