A severe thunderstorm warning from Environment Canada popped up in central Saskatchewan late Friday afternoon.
The storm warning, which took effect shortly before 4:30 p.m., covered areas around Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain.
The weather service said meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm “capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.” The advisory said wind gusts could reach 90 kilometres per hour.
According to Environment Canada, the storm was located west of Hudson Bay and was moving to the southeast at 30 km/h.
In addition to the thunderstorm warning, Environment Canada was also cautioning about wildfire smoke in northern Saskatchewan and extreme heat in the southwestern region of the province on Friday.
