Saskatchewan sent 38 athletes, coaches and mission staff to Paris.
Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate the death of a man who was in the custody of the Pelican Narrows RCMP at the time.
On Tuesday, the Mounties said the incident happened Sunday just before 3 p.m. An RCMP media release said the man was “in medical distress” at the Pelican Narrows detachment.
The RCMP said officers performed first aid until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to hospital, where he subsequently was pronounced dead.
The Mounties notified the Serious Incident Response Team, which is to investigate the officers’ interaction with the man and the circumstances surrounding his death.
