Farmers, vendors and spectators from all over the map are making their way to Saskatchewan this week for the Ag in Motion farm show.
Ag in Motion is Western Canada’s biggest outdoor farm show and it takes place in the small town of Langham. The event is something local businesses in Langham look forward to all year long.
“I think every business out here benefits every year from Ag in Motion,” said Kim Hagglund, the owner of Langham’s 50 Shots Sports Bar and Grill.
Hagglund said her restaurant has already been fairly busy in the last few days, with vendors trickling in to set up. She said the week of the show itself will be great for business, too.
Hagglund went to check out Ag in Motion last year for herself.
“It’s busy (and) exhausting but it’s well worth it,” said Hagglund.
Ag in Motion will feature a lot of things this week, from educational seminars to showcasing the latest farming equipment. It’s a time when the agriculture community comes together to learn something new.
One of the main attractions of Ag in Motion is the array of vendors on site. The show features more than 500 vendors from around the world who come to display their products.
“It’s a massive field show. It’s tremendous for the province as well as Western Canada,” said Tyson Pearsall, the owner and president of Norseman Irrigation. “It’s an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our offerings to our customers in the province and to meet people.”
This year will be the company’s second time as a vendor at the show.
Norseman Irrigation sells irrigation and pivot equipment for farmers. Pearsall said he is looking forward to demonstrating the company’s products at the show.
“Last year was excellent. We had a pivot on site (and) we’ll have a pivot on site this year but it will be running so that’s pretty exciting,” said Pearsall. “We’ll be showcasing a few of our products that way on the pivot itself.”
The provincial and federal governments recently invested in a program to expand irrigation in the province by giving back to farmers who invest in irrigation systems.
“That goes directly to irrigators themselves on new irrigation projects,” said Pearsall.
Ag in Motion is to begin Tuesday morning and runs until Thursday. The grounds are open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
