The Queen City will be represented at Tuesday’s Major League Baseball all-star game in Seattle.
Regina-born umpire Stu Scheurwater has been selected by Major League Baseball to work third base during the contest. It’s the first time in his MLB career that Scheurwater has been chosen to work in the Midsummer Classic.
Now 40, Scheurwater started umpiring in the minors in 2007 before being assigned to MLB’s spring training in 2013. He worked as a callup umpire in the majors before becoming a full-time MLB ump prior to the 2018 season.
He has appeared in the post-season, working a National League Wild Card Series in 2020 as well as the NL Division Series in 2020 and in ’22. He also was an umpire in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
