The Jazz Festival is on in Saskatoon, with a new location in Victoria Park.
This year’s festival is opening with a week of free programming, followed by ticketed shows that run Thursday through Saturday. According to Shannon Josdal, the festival’s executive director, thousands of people took in the first shows at the park over the Canada Day long weekend.
“At Victoria Park we saw crowds of up to 5,000 people,” Josdal said in a statement.
Josdal said the new primary venue is going over well with attendees.
“We’re hearing really positive feedback about the new festival site at Victoria Park,” Josdal said. “It’s wonderful to see the community come together to enjoy great music and local attractions in a new space.”
Josdal said the ticketed program includes some big names, and local acts will be performing alongside international artists.
“Our ticketed program features a strong mix of local, national and international talent this year,” the executive director said.
“For our headlining artists we’re really looking forward to having Amanda Marshall and Serena Ryder return to perform this year. We’re also looking forward to bringing in two headliners who haven’t performed in Saskatoon before, including St. Paul & The Broken Bones – I’ve had folks tell me they’ve waited a decade for us to bring this band to the festival – and Margo Price, who has a voice that sounds like equal parts Stevie Nicks and Dolly Parton, and like both of those women, Price is a generational talent.”
Day passes for the ticketed shows are $75 in advance, and can be purchased on the festival’s website.
