A major search effort is underway after a kayaker went missing during an excursion on Little Manitou Lake.
According to the Watrous RCMP, police officers, firefighters and local residents are all involved in the search, with help from the Humboldt Fire Department, Saskatoon police Air Support Unit and the Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association.
Police said the kayaker – an adult male – told his family he was heading out on the lake at about 10 a.m. Monday. His family members alerted police after he failed to return.
“The kayak has now been recovered,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“There will be an increased police presence on Little Manitou Lake and the surrounding area as the search for the male continues.”
Anyone with information that could help the search was urged to contact the Watrous RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
Little Manitou Lake is about 120 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon.
