A constable with the Saskatoon Police Service has been placed on administrative duties after an allegation of excessive force.
Const. Jody Levesque responded to a reported stabbing on May 4, 2022 and found the suspect walking nearby. The media was not informed about the event as no news release was issued by police about this incident.
The suspect was arrested and charged with breaching court conditions and aggravated assault.
The assault by Levesque is alleged to have taken place during the arrest. In a release, the Saskatoon Police Service said the suspect was not injured.
A public complaint was filed after the incident and has led to assault charges laid against Levesque.
In the statement, police said Levesque’s first appearance in court seems to have been delayed by multiple requests for disclosure. Should the matter proceed in court, police said “we will await the outcome before beginning an investigation under The Police Act.”
