Crews from CN Rail were cleaning up Thursday after a train derailment in the Fort Qu’Appelle area Wednesday night.
In a statement, CN said 20 cars and a locomotive derailed southwest of the town.
“There are no dangerous goods involved, no injuries and no fires,” the statement said. “All crossings are clear and CN expects to have the remaining cars out of the area later (Thursday). Track repairs will continue into the weekend.”
The statement said the cause of the derailment is under investigation.
According to Fort Qu’Appelle Fire Chief Dave Sabirsh, the derailment happened at about 5:30 p.m., and blocked Highway 10 near the town.
Sabirsh said traffic was stopped at the crossing for about an hour, but was flowing normally Thursday.
“CN is on site right now clearing the wreckage and repairing the track,” said Sabirsh.
