Regina residents will be roasting over the next few days.
Heat warnings were still in effect for Regina and much of southeastern Saskatchewan on Monday morning. Saskatoon wasn’t included.
Justin Shaer, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), said there won’t be much relief from the heat until closer to the end of the week.
“(It’ll) be a pretty humid oven too while we’re at it, unfortunately,” he said. “The overnight lows don’t start to really dip until about Wednesday night. We have an overnight low of around 16 (C). And then (on) Thursday, it should be milder overnight.”
Shaer added even though he expects temperatures to ease up on Thursday, he expects some heat to stick around.
“The highs will just be at least on the other side of 30 (C), in the high 20s,” he said. “As a bit drier air comes in and there isn’t as much moisture to hold on to and retain the heat overnight … we’d start to see a cooler nighttime and get some relief that way.”
According to Shaer, there’s a chance heat warnings could be extended or expanded to include other parts of province.
As for whether temperature records will be broken in the province on Monday, Shaer said there’s always the potential that could happen when it’s extremely hot.
“I’m not sure how many might be (broken),” he added. “I don’t think Regina would be seeing a record (on Monday).”
The meteorologist explained Regina usually sees highs of around 22 C this time of year.
“And we’re forecasting a high of 10 degrees warmer of 32 (C),” he said.
