Saskatoon’s 9 Mile Legacy Brewing’s 20th Street location is closing its doors Sunday, but it’s not the end for the business – it’s only the next chapter.
CEO and founder Shawn Moen said people might not know the company operates two brewing facilities.
“We’ve made the tough decision that we’re going to close that taproom facility on 20th Street and focus on opportunities that are in the larger facility,” he said.
The 20th Street “nanobrewery” has been operating since 2017. In 2020, the business expanded to a larger production facility a few blocks away.
The newer building is significantly larger than the old taproom and has a canning line. Moen said the operation will eventually expand to include a retail space on the same property, where people can see the beer in production.
“It’ll be different from the taproom space, but it will still have that 9-Mile vibe,” Moen said.
The taproom isn’t the only place to get a brew from the company.
“Our taproom will disappear, but there’s 50 other taprooms across the city that serve our beer,” Moen said.
Moen said he has enjoyed every minute spent in the original taproom, and said closing the doors will be a “bittersweet” moment.
“We look forward to reimagining that relationship with Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and the great beer drinkers of this province,” he told 650 CKOM’s Justin Blackwell.
