Saskatoon residents will have an easier time keeping cool this summer, thanks to new misting stations.
Misting stations are tents that spray misted water on people who walk through. They’ll be set up at festivals and city events throughout the summer to help combat extreme heat.
“We’re working with the festival organizers to have them out, and they’re just a nice, fun way to cool off,” said Pamela Goulden-McLeod, director of the Saskatoon Emergency Management Organization.
“It cools you off but it doesn’t soak you.”
According to Goulden-McLeod, the tents are dog-friendly, as long as dogs are leashed.
The Emergency Management Organization is also looking to help those who may be affected by summer heat.
“We’re especially looking at reaching out to people who might be living alone with a health condition and not having any way to cool their house or apartment,” said Goulden-McLeod.
She added that outreach teams and site-based community services are on call from the organization to assist with any heat related concerns as temperatures spike.
Water bottle filling stations have also gone up around the city to make drinking water more accessible on hot summer days. The city has also distributed reusable bottles.
