Albertans are giving Danielle Smith and her United Conservative Party another four-year reign of the province.
The UCP won a majority in Monday’s provincial election, but with a slightly diminished number of seats.
In her victory speech, Smith took aim at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Smith says Ottawa is planning to bring in new restrictions on electricity generation from natural gas that she says would increase power bills and endanger the reliability of the power grid.
As expected, Smith’s UCP captured almost all of the seats outside the province’s two major cities.
The NDP swept Edmonton and made big inroads in Calgary.
Rachel Notley announced that she would be staying on as leader of the Opposition.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe congratulated Smith on her victory and promised to work with the UCP government.
“I look forward to the continued co-operation and collaboration between our two provinces as we address the challenges facing Western Canada and build a prosperous future for this generation and the next,” Moe wrote.
Congratulations to Premier @ABDanielleSmith and the @Alberta_UCP on their majority win this evening.
