When a sudden and massive rainstorm hit Saskatoon and flooded streets in June 2022, 650 CKOM was on the air with live coverage.
That hours-long broadcast, which included reporters on the ground and a live news conference from city hall, has resulted in 650 CKOM being recognized with two nominations for awards for outstanding journalism in the prairie region.
The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has shortlisted 650 CKOM for Best Newscast and Breaking News.
650 CKOM is also nominated for a third award in the Feature News category for Libby Giesbrecht’s story of a Saskatoon school revitalizing indigenous languages.
The latter story can be heard below.
The winners are to be announced June 15.
The RTDNA is made up of radio and TV newsrooms across Canada.
