A man and a woman were arrested and a second man is wanted by police after an alleged string of criminal incidents around west-central Saskatchewan that ended in an apparent shooting.
According to the RCMP, officers were called to the Moosomin First Nation on May 17 for an alleged assault involving a man and a woman.
“A firearm was discharged and the female was injured,” the RCMP said in a statement. “The male left in a vehicle. The female was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.”
Police began patrolling the area to locate the man, and a few hours later spotted a grey Ford F-350 Super Duty truck. That vehicle was also connected to several incidents around west-central and central Saskatchewan over the previous days, police said.
The officers tried to pull over the truck, but police alleged the driver took off, driving through several fields before ultimately coming to a stop in a ditch.
“Two occupants were arrested without incident. A third fled on foot,” the RCMP said. “Officers patrolled the area and arrested an individual a short time later. This individual was later released without charge.”
Police said the investigation led to charges connected with the assault on the Moosomin First Nation as well as a May 14 robbery in Maidstone, police chases on the Poundmaker Cree Nation May 15 and in North Battleford the following day, and a May 16 theft of tractor fuel from a rural home in Glenside. Police added that a shot was allegedly fired during the theft.
As a result, police said a 48-year-old man from the Moosomin First Nation and 44-year-old woman from Battleford are both facing a lengthy list of charges.
Also charged – but not yet arrested – was 34-year-old Dennis Kennedy, a resident of the Red Pheasant First Nation. The RCMP said he’s facing charges including robbery, recklessly discharging a firearm, dangerous driving, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“A warrant has been issued for his arrest and Saskatchewan RCMP are actively working to locate and arrest him,” the RCMP advised. “If you see Dennis Kennedy, don’t approach him. Contact police immediately.”
Kennedy was described as approximately 6-foot-2 in height, weighing 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
