Tuesday marks the 150th year of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the 16th anniversary of the RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina.
The RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina is a non-profit museum that provides a space for learning, reflection and reconciliation, according to interim CEO Sam Karikas.
“The RCMP Heritage Centre is really a place to honour the unique contributions of the RCMP, while also providing a place for dialogue and discovery,” she told John Gormley on Tuesday.
She noted the museum welcomes thousands of visitors every year from around the world.
The museum’s collection includes artifacts, galleries, driving simulators, and one of the original cannon carts that was used during the 1874 March West, Karikas explained.
“RCMP history is Canadian history,” she said.
To commemorate the RCMP and celebrate both anniversaries, Karikas said admission to the museum will be free on Saturday. Karikas said the day will include family activities like scavenger hunts, mini motorcycles, and an interactive drill class allowing visitors to train like a cadet.
