A raid in Martensville by Saskatoon police led to the seizure of four guns, two vehicles and an assortment of drugs, while a suspect ended up in hospital.
According to police, officers with the Guns and Gangs unit “became aware of a suspect believed to be trafficking illicit drugs who was also in possession of various guns.” Police said officers followed the man while he drove around Saskatoon and Martensville in a GMC Sierra Denali, making frequent stops that were “consistent with drug trafficking activity.”
On Friday morning, police raided a home on Chaparral Boulevard in Martensville.
Police said the man tried to flee, but ended up being taken to hospital due to “contact” with a police dog during his arrest. He was treated for minor injuries, police said, and was found to be carrying what police described as a large amount of methamphetamine and cash.
“Around that time, a related female suspect was arrested in the 2100 block of Faithfull Avenue in Saskatoon and found in possession of cocaine,” police added.
At the home, police said a search turned up three shotguns, a rifle, ammunition, a machete, a folding knife, an expandable baton, 463 grams of methamphetamine, 12.46 grams of cocaine, 8.62 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 99 Xanax pills, 68 hydromorphone pills, $2,376, a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, and a 2007 Lexus IS350.
The 37-year-old Saskatoon man is now facing 10 drug charges and 17 firearms charges, police said. The 33-year-old Martensville woman is facing 10 drug-related charges, police said, and both were charged with possession of the proceeds of crime.
