The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) continues to cash in on the sale of its former liquor stores.
In a media release Monday, the SLGA said it had accepted an offer for the property that housed its store in Fort Qu’Appelle. The government said the purchase price was $370,000.
The SLGA already had accepted offers on the buildings in Watrous, Biggar, Esterhazy, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows, Creighton, Carlyle, Humboldt and Moosomin. To date, the sales have generated $3,255,000.
The provincial government got out of the liquor retail business in the fall, announcing the closure of 34 stores around Saskatchewan. The last one closed March 11.
Private permits subsequently were put up for auction in communities where SLGA stores were closing, and those sales brought in more than $45 million.
According to Monday’s release, the SLGA owned 19 of the 34 stores in which its stores were housed. Five of the buildings are to be repurposed for other government organizations.
