The Battlefords North Stars fell to .500 at the Centennial Cup on Saturday.
The SJHL champions lost 3-1 to the Collingwood Blues of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, dropping the North Stars’ record to 1-1-0 at the Canadian junior A hockey championship tournament in Portage la Prairie, Man.
Collingwood leads Group B with a win in regulation time and a win in overtime for five points. The North Stars are third in the group with three points, thanks to their 4-1 victory over the Kam River Fighting Walleye in their opener Thursday.
Battlefords outshot the Blues 37-34 in Saturday’s game, but could only get one shot past Collingwood goalie Noah Pak. Steven Kesselring had the North Stars’ lone goal.
Cam Garvey, Ayden Dooley and Spencer Young scored for the Blues.
The North Stars are to return to action Monday against the MJHL’s Portage Terriers, the tournament’s host team. The tournament runs until May 21.
