The Battlefords North Stars will look Saturday to win their second game in as many starts at the Centennial Cup junior A hockey championship tournament.
The SJHL champions beat the Kam River Fighting Walleye 4-1 on Thursday to open the tournament in Portage la Prairie, Man.
Battlefords is to face the Collingwood Blues of the Ontario Junior Hockey League on Saturday. The Blues also are 1-0-0 entering the contest.
In Thursday’s game, Steven Kesselring, Jackson Allan, Tanner Gold and Colby Bear scored for the North Stars. Jeremy Dunmore replied for the Thunder Bay-based Fighting Walleye, who are representing the Superior International Junior Hockey League.
The North Stars outshot the Fighting Walleye 15-4 in the first period and 40-24 overall.
The tournament runs until May 21.
