More beds will soon be available for those recovering from addictions in Saskatchewan.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health announced a dozen more post-treatment beds will be opening at the St. Joseph’s Addiction Recovery Centre in Estevan, which will be open to residents from across Saskatchewan.
The new spaces — on top of 14 post-treatment beds that became available at the end of March — bring the facility’s total up to 32 post-treatment beds. The centre also operates 32 inpatient beds and four pre-treatment beds.
The new beds are part of a commitment by the provincial government to add 150 more spaces for addictions recovery across the province.
Everett Hindley, Saskatchewan’s minister of rural and remote health, said the new spaces will help those who need follow-up support after completing treatment.
“This is an important step to help them on their continuing path to recovery and well-being, and we are pleased that St. Joseph’s is a strong partner in this work,” Hindley said in a statement.
St. Joseph’s was chosen through a competitive request for proposals process, the ministry noted, and negotiations are ongoing with other successful proponents, meaning more spaces will be announced in the coming months.
Including the dozen new post-treatment spaces, the ministry said the provincial government currently funds 547 pre-treatment, withdrawal management/detoxification, treatment and post-treatment spaces across Saskatchewan.
