Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating a man’s death on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
In a media release, the Mounties said their communications centre got a call Tuesday at about 12:40 a.m. about a man needing medical assistance on the First Nation located about 100 kilometres north of Prince Albert.
Officers from the Montreal Lake RCMP detachment responded and found the man laying on a road. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
“Preliminary information indicates the circumstances of the individual’s death are suspicious,” the Mounties’ release said. “As a result, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes have taken carriage of the ongoing investigation.”
The man has been identified as 50-year-old Keith Stewart. His family has been notified of his death.
The Mounties said there will be an increased presence on the First Nation as they investigate Stewart’s death.
