A 45-year-old Saskatoon man is facing an arson charge after allegedly sparking a grass fire in the city on Saturday.
According to police, officers were called to Diefenbaker Park at 11:30 a.m., when they found a large fire burning and spreading to nearby train tracks.
A witness told police two men were seen walking away from the fire, and police said the officers quickly located the pair.
One of the men was arrested without incident, and police said he was carrying a lighter and a bottle of liquor.
“Property damage from the fire was believed to be extensive,” police added.
The 45-year-old man is now facing an arson charge, and is expected to make his first court appearance next month.
