A former Maple Creek teacher and coach is now facing three charges of sexual assault – and police believe there may be more possible victims.
In a media release Monday, the RCMP said Dexter Bacsu was arrested again Friday and charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference. He had been arrested and charged with those offences on Tuesday and again on Thursday.
In their first two releases about the 64-year-old Bacsu, police said the first two alleged assaults involved male youths during a sport-related trip in the early 2000s. The RCMP didn’t specify when the third alleged assault happened.
Because of the potential that there may be other victims, the RCMP released some information on Bacsu’s employment history.
“Dexter Bacsu was a long-time teacher in Maple Creek schools and continued to work as a substitute teacher until recently. Chinook School Division has advised he is no longer an employee,” the Mounties said in their first release about the incidents.
“Dexter Bacsu volunteers in local youth sports and music programming, including as a coach and trip chaperone.”
Bacsu is scheduled to appear in Maple Creek Provincial Court on May 11.
Anyone with information about Bacsu was asked to call the Maple Creek RCMP at 306-662-5550 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
