A 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly leading Saskatoon police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
According to police, officers patrolling near Avenue O South and Dudley Street spotted a vehicle that was stolen out of Melfort. The officers tried to perform a traffic stop, but instead of pulling over, the driver took off “at a high rate of speed.”
Police successfully deployed a tire deflation device, but it wasn’t enough to immediately stop the vehicle. According to police, the driver continued to drive dangerously as the chase left the city on Highway 7. The vehicle ultimately became immobilized on Township Road 362, bringing the chase to an end.
“Both occupants were arrested without further incident,” police said in a statement. “One was found to be in possession of bear spray and a knife.”
Police said the man who was driving is now facing charges of possession of stolen property, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, dangerous driving, and fleeing police.
Both the driver and the woman who was a passenger were found to be wanted on outstanding warrants, police said.
