A licence, registration and sobriety check led police to a major drug seizure on Friday.
According to the RCMP, police seized seven kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 3.3 kilograms of fentanyl and one kilogram of cocaine after pulling over a vehicle on Highway 16 near Maidstone.
Police said that while an officer was speaking with the two men in the vehicle, the officer “became suspicious that the occupants were in possession of illegal drugs.”
The driver and passenger were both detained as a result, and the passenger was found to be in violation of release conditions.
The vehicle was subsequently searched, and that’s when police turned up the trove of illegal drugs.
The 20-year-old driver and 21-year-old passenger were both charged with possession of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
Both appeared in a Lloydminster courtroom Monday, the RCMP said, and both were remanded to appear again next month.
