The Dene High School in La Loche was closed Friday after an incident at the school left two people injured.
According to a statement from the Northern Lights School Division issued Thursday, two people were injured in the unspecified incident, and were receiving treatment.
“An individual is in RCMP custody. We will defer to the RCMP to comment further on this issue,” the school division said.
The RCMP so far hasn’t issued any statements on the incident. 650 CKOM has reached out to the Mounties for more information, but requests have not yet been returned.
Support services will be made available to the school community, the division added, and updates will be provided.
“At this moment, we would like all families to understand that we are doing everything we can as a school division and local school administration to provide the supports and care our students, staff and their families may need, as a result of this incident.”
In a separate update, the division noted the school will not host classes Friday, but will be open for students or staff “wishing to receive counselling services.”
In 2016, four people were killed in a shooting in La Loche. Two teachers were killed at the school and seven people were injured.
