Police in Saskatoon say an alleged sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl was connected to a “faith based organization.”
According to police, a woman came to police headquarters on March 12 to report that her daughter, age 13, had been sexually assaulted. Police said the alleged assault happened March 11 in the 200 block of Avenue M South.
A police investigation followed, and on Wednesday officers arrested a 69-year-old man at police headquarters. He was charged with sexual assault, police said, and was later released on a recognizance order in advance of a court date in May.
That block of Avenue M is home to a number of religious institutions, and while police confirmed there was a connection, they did not specify which one was connected to the case.
“We can confirm there is a connection to a faith based organization,” a police spokesperson said in a statement emailed to 650 CKOM. “Due to the age of the victim involved, we will not be elaborating further.”
