Two people were arrested after a home invasion turned into a gunfight in La Ronge on Wednesday evening.
According to the RCMP, three masked men armed with a gun forced their way into a home on Nikik Road at around 8 p.m.
“The three masked males searched for another male occupant of the house and exchanged gunfire once he was located,” the RCMP said in a statement.
One of the home invaders was injured in the gunfight, police said, while the occupant fled the home.
“The three masked males departed the home in a white Nissan Rogue,” the RCMP added. “Information gathered by police indicated the individuals involved were known to each other.”
The Nissan was later found parked at a nearby hospital, and the RCMP said officers seized a loaded shotgun that was left inside.
The RCMP said further investigation led police to identify and locate the three masked men. As a result, a 23-year-old man and a 38-year-old, both from La Ronge, were arrested and now face numerous charges.
The younger man was later released on an undertaking, police noted.
It’s unclear what if any charges were laid against the third suspect.
“La Ronge RCMP are working to locate the male occupant of the home who was involved in the exchange of gunfire,” police said. “Officers are requesting anyone with information about this incident to report it to the La Ronge RCMP.”
