A 27-year-old man was hit with a Taser after allegedly confronting police officers while holding weapons.
According to police, officers were called to Avenue D South early Monday morning for a report of a suspicious man going through vacant properties. Police said officers quickly located the man, but he started to walk away and was allegedly seen holding an expandable baton.
“After failing to comply with police demands, the suspect turned in an aggressive manner towards officers and also appeared to … be holding a knife,” police said in a statement.
Police then used a Taser to subdue and arrest the man, but had to use a second Taser after the first was ineffective. Although police did not say whether the man was injured, he was assessed by paramedics at the scene in accordance with police policy.
Police said the 27-year-old is now facing criminal charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and threatening to assault a police officer.
